Our community has more than one-hundred twenty years of rich sporting history. In that time a long list of admirable
individuals distinguished themselves as athletes, dedicated sports builders and
volunteers. This list keeps
growing as succeeding generations of leaders and champions carry on this
sporting tradition.
The
Wetaskiwin & County Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 2005, under stimulus of the 100th Anniversary of the City of Wetaskiwin.
To celebrate our home-grown legends and honour their accomplishments
To highlight their great moments in sport and tell their stories.
The volunteer Board of
Directors identified two broad objectives:
Honour athletes, builders, championship teams, and volunteers who
significantly contributed to the sport programs in the City and
County of Wetaskiwin. Currently a
wall display,
that honours the inductees is available for viewing in the foyer of the Civic Centre in Wetaskiwin.
Collect, preserve, research and exhibit the significant artifacts from our sporting history. Most of the items acquired to date - trophies, memorabilia and the tools of their trades - have been
generously donated by individuals or their families. Plans are being made for a permanent home for
the memorabilia.
The highlight of our Hall of Fame is the Annual Induction Dinner at which the new Inductees to the Hall are announced. Always a packed house, the celebration serves as a reunion for sporting enthusiasts, athletes, team members, and former inductees, making it the premier gathering of Wetaskiwin's sporting greats and their families.
We are grateful to all those who contribute to the growth of the Wetaskiwin and County
Sports Hall of Fame - volunteers, financial contributions, donations of memorabilia, event sponsors. To all those people and
organizations who have given support and encouragement we give you a resounding THANK YOU.
The wall display honoring the inductees is available
for viewing in the foyer of Coop Place ( formerly Civic Centre and Twin Arenas in the City of Wetaskiwin.
Delve into the stories of the men and women who challenged themselves to reach beyond our expectations to become champions in their sport.
Some of the best stories and insights are revealed through the speeches made at the Annual Induction Banquet. We share the best of those moments.
Inductees triumphed on so many levels. Take a peak at those banner moments that clinched a victory, made sporting headlines and magically rallied the fans.
Athletes wow us with their agility, uncanny power, and strength. Elitism in sport is not a marvel of the last few decades. The story of sport is historically rich.
Sponsors have the rare opportunity to keep our sports history alive. Share our vision? Inquire about sponsorship or or please support our sponsors.
If you know of an athlete, builder/leader, team, coach, or volunteer who should be celebrated for their long-term involvement and achievment, submit a nomination.
